A challenge

I have been addicted to Craftster lately. An awesome site about all sorts of crafts and wonderful people. Anyway--they have monthly challenges for folks to enter and when I saw the theme of "Childhood Heroes" I had to do it. So after racking my brain of someone to craft, it finally hit me like a ton of bricks. I read books like a fiend when I was a kid and in thinking of my favorite it came back to two women---Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary.

So off I went. I wanted to make them appear to be superheroes and drew it out in my sketchbook. Then I stitched it out in bright colors and it was done. I made their hair styles look like them and gave Judy a Power Pencil. I was thrilled with how it turned out and the memories of all those great stories that I still love.

Some embroideries

So I've been embroidering a lot lately (definately a lot more than painting) and I'm so pleased with how they've turned out. I'm really trying to get some depth with colors and shading in a linear style. This bird piece I am particulerly fond of. Again I was trying to give it a bit of depth as embroidery can tend to look a bit flat as it is a mostly a linear style of work. My plan is to turn it into a pillow. I love it.
