Here's some things I've been working on lately...

I love being productive with my time.  Makes me feel good!

New Painting

Well I've finished up one more piece for my group show at theVisual Art Exchange. I think I've got a decent little set for the show of approximately 4-5 pieces. I'm a little nervous but excited as well. I just hope to get a positive response. This one is called "Multiplying." I'm very pleased with it, the colors and layers. So we'll see.

First This, Now That

I finished a painting last night. I'm calling it "First This, Now That." I am very pleased with it! Sometimes it takes me a while to "warm up" to a new piece but I'm pretty excited about this one. So, here it is.

We'll see if others like it as much as me. I entered it into the "Unfettered" show at Visual Art Exchange. I had a piece accepted last year so maybe I'll be as fortunate this year. So I feel like I'm moving in the right direction and feel really great about it.

Progress

I finally got myself painting. I've begun several canvases with the initial layer of color I like to put down. I usually push the color back some with white after and add other layers to build up the piece. I like the look of layers and the fact that there just might be something hidden underneath. Secrets are fun.


So is discovering what the secret is....

Hmmmmm.......I'll have to think about that.

New painting

I finally finished the painting I started months ago. I still can't really decide if I'm pleased with it or not. I may have to live with for a while and see how it looks to me each day. I'm like that though--I'm always my worst critic. I'm so glad it finished though because it's been sitting unfinished on my easel for months, taunting me every day. So I have a sense of accomplishment that I can now move on to the next painting. I'd love to be able to finish one a month and that really doesn't seem to be too lofty of a goal. I'd really like to be able to show another piece this year so I'm on my way. My blank canvases that I bought on sale are now calling my name.


I sometimes think about just picking up and leaving--not telling anyone where I'm going---and having an adventure. I envy people that do that.


Detail of the embroidery. I like the juxtaposition of different mediums like paint, fabric and thread. I think (at least I hope) that it creates a very dynamic image.

Started again

Well, I started a new painting....finally. I'm trying to get a body of work together to start really putting it out there. My goal is to have a show next year. It may not happen but it is at least a goal. I feel good about the new piece and hope it turns out like it looks in my head.

On another note...the season finale of Dr. Who blew my mind.

"A Chance"

This painting is the first painting I completed after a long hiatus from my work. I had been traveling around the country, living here and there, and had neglected my art. So when I got goin again, I started small. This piece is only 6x6. When I was painting it though I felt, and this is going to sound cheesy--but I felt happy. Oh how I had forgotten the freedom of it all and the thrill of creating something totally orginal. And it really is "me." This piece also had bit of fabric and some embroidery. It also has a embroidered statement that goes around the outside of the painting saying, "All she wanted was a chance to be present then" sewn on lovely eyelet fabric (which I love) and the fencing is embroidered also. I suppose there's not too much else to say about it. It was shown during the Chapel Hill Public Art show from March to may of 2008.
