Another opening

Well, I made it to another opening. My second group showing. It was a nice little party with pretty cupcakes, and a slideshow of all the work. My piece is in a coffee shop right in the middle of town so that's exciting. I just need to paint more and get my name out there. Finding the time is always hard though. There are so many things that I enjoy doing--sewing class, embroidery. So I think I may need to actually make a schedule. I will paint on certain days and sew on certain days and embroider on certain days. It may not last but it may just get me focused.

embroidery

So I have been doing a lot of embroideries lately. Mostly for baby gifts as it seems that everyone I know is pregnant. But I have really been enjoying it. I absolutely love pulling the thread through fabric and drawing with thread. I am working on a bird image now that will hopefully make it's way onto a pillow for my empty couch. I want to do several for pillows and things like that to really personalize my place. Hopefully it will make the place a little homier.

p.s.--for the life of me--I can't seem to do a french knot. I read the directions and practiced so many times. I don't know why in the world it's just not clicking. I used to be able to do them.

Back into it

So at the beginning of the year I decided that I was going to start creating again. It had been like 8 years since I got out of school and had really done nothing with my art. So I got off the stick and finally started painting and stitching again. I took an art business class to learn more about the ins and outs of actually making a living as an artist (which would be great right?) and just to meet some fellow artists in the area. I learned so much from that class and also learned about places to take my work and shows to enter. I had my first deadline. So I entered a piece into the Visual Art Exchange show and my piece was accepted. I really couldn't believe it. I mean this was the first piece I have completed in years and they actually liked it. I then get a call from the gallery and the painting also got an honorable mention! I was on cloud nine. I went to the opening and it was a wonderful feeling to be among other artists and have my work showing in an actual "real" gallery. This show has given me the confidence I need to continue and feel that my work will be accepted and maybe someone will actually buy something one day. So, I am feeling good about my work and myself. Hopefully, this new journey with my art will be a great one.
