Early Witches finished!

Hello everyone!  This past week, NC was hit with an arctic blast coating us with a nice layer of snow and ice. It's been brutally cold and work was cancelled and delayed along with my son's daycare.  So that meant more stitching time for me!  I was able to finish up Early Witches by The Primitive Hare.  I'm thrilled to bits with this finish.  I love it!!

This is stitched on 28 count Cashel linen in Legacy from Picture This Plus.  It's one of the pieces I bought in their sale last year and I think it's perfect for this pattern and goes so well with the colors in this piece.  If you follow me on Instagram at all, you may recall this piece being stitched on a golden yellow fabric. After stitching up the entire top section, the words and part of the first witch, I realized that I was going to run out of room.  I had my fabric oriented the wrong way.  I was so devastated and began to unpick all that work.  Then I just couldn't even do that.  So I decided to start over completely using another piece of fabric and I am actually glad I did because this fabric fits the design so much better.  So I guess it all worked out in the end.

I also enjoyed reading up on the witches as well. I've put some links below if you'd like to know a little bit more about these Early Witches in particular.

                         *Bell Witch

                            *Tituba

*Pickety It was hard to find a lot of information on Pickety, but she is referenced in The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.  She's mentioned in a song "The Pickety Witch, The Pickety Witch, who's got a kiss for the Pickety Witch?'

                           *Laveau

This is finish number two for the Cross Stitch Crazy Challenge!  I feel like I'm making some great progress with my challenge pieces.  I've also been stitching on my lunch breaks and have two small finishes to share when I get a chance to try to get some good photos. (still using my phone---blah).  I've also lost my mind and joined some SALs in a couple of Facebook groups.  I don't know what I was thinking but they sound so fun and I'm actually working a couple of challenge pieces into the SALs so it will be fun.  I really enjoy SALs in general. So until next time!

Happy Stitching!

A Stitchy Giveaway!! (CLOSED)

This giveaway is closed. Thank you all.

As promised in my last post, I've gathered a few things for my very first de-stash giveaway!  I'm very excited about it and hope you are as well.  I've put together three different packages.  To enter, just comment on this post and let me know which package you would like.  You can enter for one or for all.  Be sure to leave a way for me to contact you if you win, either an email address or if you are a fellow blogger, leave a link to your blog so I can contact you there.  This giveaway is open to anyone--I will ship anywhere.

Package #1:  Embroidery!
This package contains a Sublime Stitching pattern "Pinups by Gil Elvgren".  I have somehow ended up with two of these so I'm passing one along!  I've also included one of my favorite tea towels from Aunt Martha's.  These are so fab to stitch on!  Also, a little doily you can add some fun stitches to that I've picked up in my thrift adventures, a little frame and some DMC floss.

Package #2: Cross Stitch
This package contains three patterns; 50 Floral Designs, "Happiness" by My Big Toe and "Blooming with Inspiration" by Blue Ribbon Designs which is a really pretty sampler pattern and also has patterns for a scissor fob, scissor case, floss ring tag and a needlebook. There's also some fabric and some little buttons that I think would be perfect to embellish your projects and three skeins of Weeks Dye Works floss, a skein of Anchor black and one skein of good 'ol DMC white.

Package #3: A piece by me!
I've gone through my finished pieces and came across this piece that I stitched a couple of years ago and there it sat in my finished pile since then.  So I hooped it up for the giveaway.  This is a Sublime Stitching pattern of a saucy little fairy from the Gnomes and Fairies set. I really enjoyed stitching this piece and I hope you enjoy it as well.

Bonus Package!
I discovered two of these California Raisins cross stitch patterns in my stash.  How I ended up with two I'm not sure, but I have several California Raisins patterns so I must have just picked this one up not realizing it was a duplicate.  So I'd like to pass it on to someone that may want it. It has a little wear but the patterns inside are perfect!  Long live the 80's!

That's it!  I will draw for the winners on February 21st.

Best of luck to you all!!

Some news!

I’ve had this little blog for over 6 years now and it’s been a really fun space for me to talk about things I make, things I like, and art and people that inspire me.  I’ve met some great folks through blogging as well and love the support I get from the stitching community in particular.  I’ve never been too concerned about becoming a big-time blogger or anything, I just wanted a little part of the internet to call my own. But I did recently notice that I have reached 50 followers, a number that I don’t pay that much attention to, but seeing  a nice even number made me give a second look.  So, to mark this occasion I thought I’d do a little de-stash giveaway!  I’m going to put together a few little things and have a giveaway as a way of saying thanks for sticking with me all these years.  So watch this space for some little doo-dads and thingamajigs as I go through my stash to find the perfect goodies for my fellow crafty friends!

Thrifty Thursday: Cross Stitch Stash

I wanted to share some fun things I found at the thrift store recently.  I had the rare chance to actually go to the thrift—alone!   I walked in the door and there was a big sign that read “All Crafts 50% off”!  SCORE!  This particular thrift always has tons of crafty items for a real bargain.  So I commenced in digging through approximately 12 crates that hold cross stitch magazines, leaflets and pamphlets.

Yes I looked through every, single one.  I just had to!  They are normally priced at either a quarter or fifty cents, so half off is definitely a price I couldn’t resist. So here’s a few of the goodies I found in the search!  Be warned---tons of photos in this post!

I found several SamSarah patterns.  These were all priced at a quarter so I got them for a steal.  I found several of these monthly bee patterns which are so adorable.  I think these will definitely get stitched up.  The wings are too cute.  I may even need to scour ebay for the other months.

The strawberry wings kill me with cute!

I also found more of the alphabet set they came out with a few years back. I have found a few previously from this same thrift store.  I’m pretty sure “W is for Wizard” is my favorite

W is for Wizar
U is for Umbrella
X is for X-ray
F is for Farm
And these super cute carrots!

I came across several Cricket Collection patterns as well.  I am in love with the Easter patterns, particularly this one with carrot cake and the little carrots.  So cute and those will definitely get stitched.
Look how cute!!!!
There’s also these super cute bunnies.  Too adorable.

Then some other patterns as well.

I found quite a few patterns from Fanci That as well.  I'm actually not too familiar with them but they've got some super cute designs, especially “Mr. Shivers".

There are also a few from a monthly collection, Scarecrows of the Month, which I found a few of the months.

And more from Fanci That:

But wait there's more!!  Here's some MORE patterns I found.

Several small designs from Trail Creek Farm
A cute St. Patrick's Day pattern from Nessy Lynn's, a Christmas pattern from JBW Designs and an Ink Circles pattern

 Some fun designs

How perfect is "Sweetheart Angel" for Valentine's Day?  And I loved the gingerbread house pattern in the Homespun Christmas booklet

I even came across these Aunt Martha's embroidery patterns
Then some random magazines. These I didn’t tear into because they have a lot of patterns I like in them so it’s easier to keep it intact.

I did find several more magazines too which I’ve already gone through and taken out the particular patterns I wanted.  I always do this for thrift store magazines as I don’t see the need in keeping the entire magazine when I really just want a pattern or two from it…especially when I only pay 12 cents for it.  I put these patterns in sheet protectors and keep them all in a binder organized by type of pattern (Christmas, floral, etc.)  It works for me and takes up much less space and I know what I have as opposed to flipping through magazines trying to find something in particular.

Phew!  That's it!  I'm so excited about my awesome finds and can't wait to stitch some of these up.  I love a good thrift store find.  What's one of your favorite thrift stash finds?
